The Detroit News Published 5:24 p.m. ET Aug. 22, 2019 A wall of hooks can create a rotating display of tote bags and other fashion accessories like scarves. (Photo: Ballard Designs.) Fashion and home decor can go hand in hand, especially when you combine the two inside your house. Take some time at the tail end of summer to incorporate a few wardrobe staples and other items into your rooms. There are endless ways to add fashion to your interiors. Two of my favorites happen to be dress forms and valet stands that can hold your outfit for the next day or show a keepsake from your travels, such as a kimono for you to admire on a regular basis. Classic footwear, from ballet slippers to cowboy boots, make a fashion statement wherever they stay while telling a compelling story from the wear and tear that appears through the years. Grouping like items together packs a visual punch, such as installing a series of hooks for your hoodies or filling a garment rack with special occasion dresses

Every August for more than two decades, Natalie Sillery has fitted models, invited designers and presented the Saratoga Fashion Show, all while running her shop, Saratoga Trunk.  The show has been a popular event for years, usually taking place around the Travers Stakes festivities. However, this year’s show marks the end of that tradition.   “Every fashion show has a finale. This is the final fashion finale,” Sillery said.  The show, which will be held today at the 1863 Club, raises money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region.  “This has been my vehicle for 22 years to raise awareness, support [and] money. I tell people it’s not only a fundraiser, it’s become a real friend-raiser,” Sillery said.  In true finale fashion, Sillery invited fashion designer Don O’Neill and Evelyn Anastos, president of Theia, the Thoroughbred of Style, to chair the show.  O’Neill has designed for celebrities like Oprah, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and, most recently, the Duchess of Sussex Megan Markle.  “In just a little less than nine years [Don] has catapulted to world-renowned

Behind everyone was a giant mountain of black trash bags, all of which held fabric and material that needed to be sorted. Nearby was Jessica Schreiber, who founded Fabscrap in 2016 with the intention of creating a viable and long-lasting fabric recycling program in a city that didn’t have one for commercial businesses. Before launching her non-profit, Schreiber ran the fashion recycling program for New York’s Department of Sanitation, which was only focused on residential buildings in the city. Her colleague, Fascrap’s Community Coordinator Anne Keating, explained that they “get about 3,000 to 5,000 pounds of fabric per week from various companies around New York.” Fabscrap charges these companies a small, tax-deductible pickup fee and provides extra bags at every pickup. There are two types of bags: brown for general waste and black for proprietary fabrics, which the brand has denoted cannot be resold or reused. They will also give each company they work with an “Impact Report,” which includes the end use of all sorted materials, the total weight diverted from the landfill, and
